TV show reviews: Rock of Love – Part 8

Flash back twenty years ago to most any teenage girl’s bedroom, and you would find a myriad of posters featuring the many rock gods of the era including Poison with the blue eyed front man Bret Micheals. And each night these same girls probably went to sleep dreaming of Bret talking dirty to them. Fast forward to the present and VH1 has offered to these now grown up women an opportunity to live vicariously through silicone and collagen injected bimbos that vie for Bret’s affection in the popular reality series Rock of Love.

The rock star lifestyle found itself not conducive to a lasting love life for poor Bret and VH1 being the match making reality show machine that it is could not pass on the opportunity to help another fan favorite find love, or at least attempt to. Rock of Love entered the VH1 lineup, falling on the heels of Flavor. As Bret Michaels drives up to his mansion on his trademark motorcycle, twenty ladies wait to find out if they will receive a coveted backstage pass and remain to rock his world through a series of challenges and dates.

The series was filled with a complete line up of characters fulfilling all roles mandatory for a reality show. Lacy channeled Satan, while Heather channeled the 80’s. Jes was the viewer favorite and Sam was the delicate emotional train wreck punker and who can forget the twins, Krista and Kristia, who are probably still trying to figure out if they are long lost sisters, just like in the Parent Trap.

From the beginning it was clear the series was going to become must see TV when Tiffany turned into the guest that would not leave by somehow sweet talking the impenetrable Big John and getting herself back into the house after being one of the first eliminated. As it happens when girls are grouped together cat fights were a constant as was pole dancing. This captured the attention of long time Poison fans as well as men and teenage boys. The season ended with Bret deciding between Heather and Jes, with Jes ultimately becoming the winner after making some rotten observations about Heather over breakfast.

A reunion show was quickly put together to catch the viewers up on the magical made in reality TV relationship, and to the dismay of Bret and the delight of VH1 Jes made the startling revelation that Bret had made the wrong choice and that Heather is who he should have chosen. VH1 promptly jumped on the production of Rock of Love 2.

With a fan base securely in place, Rock of Love 2 promised
